Friday Release: 'Gattu', a boy obsessed with kites
Directed by Rajan Khosa, 'Gattu' is the Children's Film Society of India's first movie to be released theatrically.
Mumbai: Directed by Rajan Khosa, 'Gattu' is the Children's Film Society of India's first movie to be released theatrically. It hits the theatres this Friday.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, who made the children's film 'Makdee', believes that lack of theatrical releases has kept kids away from entertainment created for them.
"All the credit for it's ('Gattu') release goes to (CFSI chairman) Nandita Das and Rajshri, who are distributing the film. I think it's a beautiful film. Normally, entertainment created for kids does not reach them because it's not released in theatres. I am very happy this is being released and I am sure kids are going to love it," said Bhardwaj at the premiere.
'Gattu' was honoured with a special mention at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February.
The basic premise of the story is set in a small town of central India where everyone is obsessed with flying kites.
In a nation that is obsessed with flying kites, the story is staged in a small town. A kite called 'Kali' dominates the sky there, however everyone wants to beat that kite. Gattu is also one of those people who want to get square with the owner of Kali. He tries hard to beat Kali but his opponent proves to be better than him, until one day when Gattu finds a strategically important place to fly his kite. It's a school's roof top.
Gattu sneaks into the school where he needs to pretend that he is studying. His only problem is that he doesn't know how to read or write.
The film is produced by CFSI and Mohammad Samad plays the role of Gattu.
The film has an interesting story line and a good word of mouth publicity can make it excel at the box office also. (With additional inputs from IANS)
