Goa rape: School tried to destroy evidence, allege victim's parents
The parents say the school tried to destroy the evidence by washing the victim's blood stained clothes and gave her a bath.
Panaji: The parents of a minor girl, who was raped in a Goa school four days back, have alleged that the school staff tried to destroy the evidence of the crime. "School teachers washed her clothes, gave her bath and cleaned the toilet after the sexual assault," the parents alleged.
They tried to destroy the evidence by washing her blood stained clothes, gave her bath and even went to the extent of cleaning the toilet where the crime was committed, the shattered parents further alleged. "This was done before police were informed about the incident," the seven-year-old girl's father claimed, adding that he received a call from the school saying that his daughter was sick.
The school management said that they will clarify their stand by calling a special meeting of the parents and agitated locals later on Thursday. The father of the girl also alleged that the school management tried to hide the incident.
"The gates of the school should have been sealed when the incident came to notice. But that was not done. There is clear negligence on part of the school and also an attempt to destroy evidence," the victim's father said. He also claimed that one of the teachers told him that the girl was bleeding when she was brought before the headmistress.
On January 14, a seven-year-old girl was raped in her school toilet in Vasco town, 40 kms away from Panaji. Police are yet to track the accused, suspected to be a middle-aged man. They have also released two different sketches to track him.
The mother of the victim said that the school should have taken the girl to the doctor immediately and also informed police. "But that did not happen. There was indiscriminate delay," she added. Following the incident, there were protests for the last two days in Vasco city. Goa Police have formed a 15-member special investigation team (SIT) to trace the accused. Yesterday, a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for the person who could give information about the accused.
