US: Indian student at Boston University shot dead
The Indian student, K Sheshadri Rao was from Odisha and was pursuing an MBA degree at the Boston University.

New Delhi: In a grim incident in the US, an Indian student of the Boston University was allegedly shot dead by unknown assailants in the Allston neighbourhood, which is a mile from the campus. The student, K Sheshadri Rao, hailed from Odisha. He was pursuing MBA at the university.

The victim's father, K Sudhakar Rao said that Sheshadri was "dragged out" of his room allegedly by fellow students on Thursday night and shot. He added that his son's murder was a case of hate crime.

The family further alleged that they were informed of the murder by the Indian Consul General only by Friday afternoon.

"I got the information from the Consul General," said Sudhakar. "He has now proceeded to Boston and is holding talks. As per the Boston University, my son was dragged from his residence and shot dead on the main road at around 2:30 am. I got the information yesterday from Consul General. I have been asking him to send the dead body."

He added, "I suspect this is a hate crime against Indians by American students."

Sheshadri's mother said, "I had spoken to him just a day back and he told me everything was going well. I think someone jealous of him has killed him. Our children are going to the US to study... why target them?"

She demanded that the culprit be caught immediately and given the harshest punishment.

The Boston Police, however, refuted the claims saying it was too early to comment on the motive of the murder, which was still under investigation. It further argued that there was no evidence that Sheshadri was "dragged" from his room and killed.

Sheshadri's dead body was found outside his hostel room on the road in the Allston neighbourhood of the Boston University, the police said.

Investigations are currently underway into the murder and Boston University officials have allegedly pledged full support into the investigations.
