Land grab case: HC disposes petition by Alagiri
Dhaya Cyber Park Manager had sought a direction restraining the police from arresting Alagiri and his family.
Madurai: The Madras High Court on Thursday disposed of a petition seeking to restrain police from arresting Union minister MK Alagiri and two of his family members over a land grabbing complaint against their firm after police said there was no FIR against any of them.
Disposing of the petition filed by an official of Dhaya Cyber Park, in which Alagiri and his family members are directors, the court directed him to approach the state DGP with a representation.
Justice R Sudhakar said the petition had no basis as the government pleader stated that no FIR had been registered against the company directors, including Alagiri.
Dhaya Cyber Park Manager R Manikandan had sought a direction restraining the police from arresting Alagiri, his wife Kanthi Alagiri and son Dhayanidhi Alagiri.
Justice Sudhakar said if the petitioner felt he and others were being targeted in a civil case, they could represent to the DGP and ask the police not to interfere with the possession of the site by the company.
The petitioner submitted they had purchased 3.95 acres of land for Rs 85.65 lakh from S Martin, who had earlier bought it from a temple trust.
Four suits, including one challenging the decision of the trustees to sell the land, were filed in a civil court, but were dismissed. Appeals against this are pending in the high court, he said.
While the matter was purely civil in nature, police were trying to give a different colour to the case by seeking to launch criminal prosecution against Alagiri and others under pressure from the ruling party, he had charged.
