Maharashtra-based saint calls family planning anti-Hindu
Maharasthra-based Swami Narendracharya has put up hoardings claiming that the number of Hindus in the country has been decreasing.
Allahabad: Some saints are opposed to the family planning Maha Kumbh in Allahabad by claiming that the Hindu religion is under threat. But some women's organisations have opposed the saints and issued an open letter to them saying that opposing family planning is like shackling women.
Maharasthra-based Swami Narendracharya has put up hoardings claiming that the number of Hindus in the country has been decreasing and he blames family planning for it. Narendracharya claims that only Hindus are being forced to undergo family planning which is resulting in the decrease in their population.
Although Narendracharya is not at the Kumbh but his companion Swami Hansdevacharya from the Ramanandi community has taken up his responsibility and has blamed family planning for the decrease in the population of the Hindus.
Hansdevacharya says that there is just one Constitution for the entire country so why is it that some communities have the freedom to indulge in polygamy, but not the Hindus. He says that family planning should be implemented strictly for everyone and not for only for one community.
But women's organisations and social activists of Allhabad have called their claims a pack of lies. An open letter has been sent to Narendracharya on behalf of the Stree Mukti organisation in which it has been pointed out that Hindu population is not declining according to census data.
Stree Mukti coordinator Doctor Nidhi Mishra says that family planning has helped in improving the social and physical condition of the women. Women's organisation say that such a propaganda could create problems in the life of women.
According to social activist Padma Singh women are a machine to produce children. A woman should have the right to give birth babies no matter whether she is Hindu or Muslim.
