The Home Minister, however, cautioned that infiltration may take place in Jammu and Kashmir during this summer.

New Delhi: No incident of terror has taken place in the past six months in the country's hinterland and there was much lower level of violence in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeastern region, Home Minister P Chidambaram said

The Home Minister hoped than the second half of this year would be better but cautioned that infiltration may take place in Jammu and Kashmir during this summer.

"As far as the first six months of this year is concerned, in the hinterland, not in the border states, there has been no incident of terror and no casulty....in Jammu and Kashmir we are keeping a vigil," he said.

Chidambaram said in the Northeast, there was much lower level of terror than the corresponding period of last year - 286 incidents this year in comparison to 365 incidents last year and 42 civilian killed last year than 34 this year.

"In Jammu and Kashmir again much lower level (of violence) - 254 incidents last year, 168 this year. Left Wing Extremism areas - 338 last year, 203 this year - much lower level of violence, much lower level of casualties except in
Northeast," he said.

The Home Minister said the Amarnath Yatra has been going on and there was disruption to the pilgrimage only due to the weather and full security has been provided to it.

Asked about the recent violence at Forbesganj in Bihar, Chidambaram said the Prime Minister has not sought any report on it but he had briefed him orally some days ago when he met him for some other matters.

"Yes, the (Home) Ministry has a report from the Bihar government about what happened etc., etc. There is an inquiry going on...magisterial inquiry...," he said.
