Ball is in Uddhav Thackeray's court, says BJP leader Piyush Goyal on post-poll alliance
Goyal also said that a 20-day period cannot decide the fate of 30 years, referring to the long term alliance of the BJP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

New Delhi: Power and Coal minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the Bharatiya Janata Party made big gains in the 2014 Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections, saying that the party owes its victory to the PM's leadership.

While the BJP is leading with a majority in Haryana, it emerged as the single largest party in Maharashtra, though it failed to make a majority.

Goyal said that the ball is now in Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's court as far as forming the government in Maharashtra is concerned.

The Union Minister also said that, unfortunately there was a misunderstanding on the seat sharing issue, and a lack of understanding on the ground situation.

Goyal also said that a 20-day period cannot decide the fate of 30 years, referring to the long term alliance of the BJP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

While expressing confidence in the BJP Parliamentary board, which is likely to decide further strategies in Maharashtra, as far as government formation is concerned, Goyal also said that both the party leaders will sit down and decide upon the issue. Goyal pointed out that in spite of the divorce between the two parties, Shiv Sena leader Anant Geete was present during the Cabinet meeting on Saturday.

Accounting for the failure of the BJP to get a majority in Maharashtra, Goyal said that probably their reach in the remote areas was not so much.

Goyal also said, "The biggest achievement of the elections will be a Congress Mukt Maharashtra. Maybe, if we had fought along with the Shiv Sena the results would have been better. I think BJP will inch closer to the half way mark and will form the government, with the support of other like-minded parties in Maharashtra". Goyal, however, did not give a clear answer on whether the Shiv Sena was a like-minded party.
