BANGALORE: Results of the joint entrance examination (JEE) to the Indian Institute of Technologies in India was announced on Wednesday morning.
The JEE 2011 was conducted in 131 cities across India in 1,051 centres. A total of 5,400 candidates from Karnataka including 4,125 from Bangalore out of 4,85,262 candidates from across the nation, attempted the JEE to gain admission to 9,600 seats in 16 IITs.
The toppers from the state Aditya P Gaonkar (rank 151), Deepak Narayan (rank 229) and Aishwarya Padmakumar (rank 241) are from Bangalore. The JEE was conducted on April 10.
"I was initially scared of attempting the JEE, as I am from a state syllabus background and felt that I would never be able to compete with students of other boards," Aditya Gaonkar, who intends pursuing electrical engineering, told Express. His father is elated that his son has achieved something that which he was unable to do.
A confident Aishwarya Padmakumar, says that she did not even bother to calculate her score after the exam as she was confident of securing a good rank.
Padmakumar advises IIT aspirants not to overdstudy and asks them to enroll at a coaching institute as they give one a better insight into the concepts. She has set her sights on degree in electrical or computer science engineering in IIT Chennai. Deepak Narayan's mother expressed hapiness at her son's performance and added he plans to pursue higher education at MIT, Boston.
IITChennai seems to enamuour most JEE aspirants, as Abhilash S (rank 255) averred that he plans to pursue computer science or electrical engineering at IIT Chennai.
However, Aditya V Kamath (rank 2319) was shocked to see his results. "I expected a sub1,000 rank; this has come as a shock to me," he says.
