Srinagar: Three terrorists - Mudassir Hajam, Showkat Lohar, and one unknown - were on Monday killed by security forces in a gunbattle in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, defence officials said.

The gunbattle broke out at around 8 PM in Wanihama village of Anantnag, following an anti-militancy operation launched by the security forces, said a defence spokesman.

He added that three militants were killed in the ensuing gunbattle.

"Based on specific information that three LeT terrorists would be passing through the Wanihama (Brakpora) area of Anantnag in a car, personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police laid an ambush and engaged them, killing all three," IANS quoted Defence Ministry spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia as saying.
