HYDERABAD: Born in Chennai and having completed higher education in the United States of America, actress/ producer Lakshmi Manchu had to deal with discrimination in the United States before she made it big. Recalling her struggles as a woman entrepreneur, Manchu narrated how difficult it was to secure a job in the west after completing a film production course there.
At a rendezvous event on 'women entrepreneurs' held by The Indus Entrepreneurs here on Friday, the actress spoke about the determination and grit required for a woman to survive in the entertainment business. "Skin colour and my South Indian accented English were my hurdles back then," she said.
Fitness trainer Dinaz Vervatwala who was present on the occasion narrated the rough patches in her career when she had to sit in her training institute without a client, money or advertisements.
She waited for six months before her first client showed up at her door. The will power with which she bounced back after suffering 47 per cent burns in a kitchen accident in 2006, drew applause from the audience.
