Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan might be a leading face of the highest echelons of acting today, but his journey in the film industry hasn't been all gold. In an exclusive interaction with CNN News18's Entertainment Editor, Shah Rukh looks back at the first two years of his marriage with Gauri Khan and recalls about the changes the two had to make in their personal lives to accommodate the demanding needs of his profession.
"Gauri was new to the film industry, but so was I. Two years in Mumbai were for us like a honeymoon full of bumps. There were issues. You didn’t know whether you would shoot till 6 in the morning," he said.
He further reminisces about their first night in Mumbai as a couple. "I remember the first night we were married and came to Mumbai after about 5-7 days, she spent that evening nearly with her chooda. She changed in an Indian dress at Hema ji’s shoot in film city till 6 in the morning. I left, I thought I’ll pack up at 8 but some delays happened, as it happens in shoot, and there were no mobile phones, so I just sent a cab. I didn’t have a car. I asked her to come over and sit there because it’s going to take a little time. So she sat, on her second night in Mumbai, in film city, in a makeup room. We just sat there till 6 in the morning and came back," he shares.
"And I think that point made us realize, as angry as it made us then, that this is the life. Those two years, cooking omlettes for each other, making eggs and it just passed off," he added.
The actor has no qualms in accepting that stardom is now a part of their family. He says, "Post that, I think I became such a success, though none of us are very materialistic, I became such a success that it became a part of the family."
"So there’s a wife, there are three children, there’s a sister and there's stardom. So we all live together," he adds.
