Court summons Honey Singh over allegations of vulgar lyrics
Uttar Pradesh IPS officer Amitabh Thakur had filed an FIR against Honey Singh for offensive songs, saying that he should be punished for his obscene anti-women lyrics.

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered Punjabi rapper-singer Honey Singh to be present in court on Tuesday to respond to allegations of vulgarity in one of his songs.

Uttar Pradesh IPS officer Amitabh Thakur had filed an FIR against Singh for offensive songs, saying that he should be punished for his obscene anti-women lyrics. The singer's New Year concert at a Gurgaon hotel was also cancelled following online protests. Thakur had said, "The lyrics of his songs are vulgar and obscene. One song is called 'Mai hoon balatkari'. Only online petitions and protests will not help in convicting Honey Singh. An FIR will." If found guilty of obscenity, he can be sentenced to three years imprisonment.

The FIR was lodged by Gomti Nagar police on the complaint of Thakur, police sources said in Lucknow. The FIR was registered under sections 292, 293 and 294 of the IPC that are related to obscenity offences.
