If it was George Michael in the 80's and 90's, it was Linkin Park in the late 90's and early 2000's. Friday turned out to be a major loss for music lovers as they mourned Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington's death. The lead singer(41), allegedly committed suicide at his home in California.

Bennington was unique; he could sing like an angel, and at the same time scream like a demon. He received appreciation for his unique vocal tone and pitch. His voice was one music lovers could recognise anywhere. Apart from being involved in a couple of side projects, Chester is best known for being the lead singer of popular rock band Linkin Park.



Bennington together with Linkin Park has released 7 albums till date, the latest being 'One More Light' in May 2017. Linkin Park rose to popularity with the album 'Hybrid Theory' in 2000, which turned out to be the best-selling album of the decade. Through the 2000's Linkin Park satiated their lovers with albums like Meteora (2003), Minutes to Midnight (2007), A Thousand Suns (2010), Living Things (2012), and The Hunting Party (2014).

In 2003, Linkin Park tried their hands at the pop realm with 'Meteora', which ended up selling 4 million copies. In 2004, the band collaborated with rapper Jay-Z to produce a remix album titled Collision Course, which debuted in 2004. Their collaboration with Jay-Z was arguably one of the best things that had happened to the band, as their work Numb/Encore won a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.



In 2005, Bennington decided to take a break and decided to start his own band Dead by Sunrise (previously known as Snow White Tan). Following the demise of Stone Temple Pilots' lead singer Scott Weiland, Bennington was chosen as his replacement. Together, they worked multiple shows and projects. He was named the lead singer of the band and also worked on their album EP High Rise in 2013.

By 2015, Chester was back with Linkin Park, churning out music for their fans. Chester was one of the pioneering musicians who introduced people to the idea of combining metal roaring vocals, with clean and pop-friendly music. Bennington's influences in music come from Metallica, Alice in Chains, Misfits, The Naked and Famous, Nirvana, and Soundgarden, among others.

Bennington is survived by his wife Talinda Bentley and six children. His songs gave a sense of motivation to people, who could find solace in the lyrics. Chester was always optimistic about the music the band had produced and was going to produce.

From 'Crawling' to 'One More Light', Chester has touched millions of souls with his music and thanks be to him for showing us the power of music. The music industry has indeed lost a major contributor. After police officials confirmed reports of the singer's loss, tributes came pouring in for the Linkin Park frontman, with musicians and celebrities from around the world mourning the loss. In the end, it turns out, it did matter.
