Q. When did you last speak to him? And if not very personal, could you share some of the things you talked about? Asked by: Kunjram
A. It was last Tuesday, he was eager to know about the health situation of my wife, how am I doing & how the senior & young students are doing in Ravi Shankar centre in Delhi.
Q. How was Panditji's equation with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan? A lot of people say it was strictly professional though they were very good friends towards the beginning. People even say that though they performed together on rare occasions, they never spoke to each other backstage. Asked by: Manvi
A. Under the guidance & umbrella of Baba Allahudin Khan. These two great musicians grew up as two sons. All the knowledge & skills of Baba was shared by these two talents. Practicing together, performing together, recording together was quite expected & appreciated for many years. Having own appreciators in the field of music, these two great artists were more & more busy in there own solo performances. Later, these two maestros settled in two different cities of USA & were busy with there own commitments. It is therefore, was a difficult job to get these two maestros in a common platform out of their busy individual schedule.
Q. Is it true that Annapurna Devi was infinitely more talented than Pandit Ravi Shankar and that is why withdrew herself so that her husband could shine? Asked by: A Bhaduri
A. Guruji was always admiring & respecting Annapurna Devi as an artist. So, even the disciples use to call her guru maa.
Q. Everyone appreciates the classical Sitar recitals of Ravishankar. His fusion of strings with George Harrison made him globally acclaimed. Who took the first initiative for the fusion ? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. It was a perfect blending of eastern & western music which was first done by Pandit Ravi Shankar which he presented to the world while working with George Harrison & later with Zubin Mehta & many others. The name fusion music came later in practice with the advancement of blending of music of east & west.
Q. Why did Vilayat Khan not get the same worldwide recognition as Ravi Shankar? what made the difference ? Asked by: rajib
A. Guruji said because of Vilayat Khan I'm here today in this position...we were always in competitive & challenging mood.
Q. Why did Ravi Shankar leave India and never return back? Was there any specific western traits that engrossed him ? Asked by: kaushik datta
A. He was coming & going from India for concerts, recordings & giving workshops. Later, as advised by doctors he avoided summer in India & was regularly staying in India for 4-5 months in winter at a stretch for giving concerts, recordings & workshops for senior disciples.

A. None of them are from the musical family of Pandit Ravi Shankar. They are eminent artist of Indian classical music.
