CD row Singhvi's personal matter: Congress
The Congress has dismissed any possibility of Abhishek Manu Singhvi quitting as the chief spokesperson of the party.

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday declined to comment on the CD controversy concerning chief party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, saying it was a personal matter of the senior lawyer.

When asked as to why Singhvi did not address the press briefing of the Congress party on Monday, party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said that the only information they had was that the leader was unwell.

Alvi further dismissed any possibility of Singhvi quitting as the chief party spokesperson, saying he would address the briefing next week.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party hit out at the Congress leader, terming the issue as serious in nature, adding the truth must come out.

BJP leader Kirti Azad said, "The truth should come out. We should actually know what really happened. If all these things are fabricated, we should know."

"The issue is very serious in nature. Either court or Mr Abhishek Manu Singhvi should let us know what the truth is," he further said.

Meanwhile, Singhvi has opted out of party briefings for now after finding himself in a controversy over a CD, which he claims has been doctored to embarrass him. Singhvi has been taken off the duty roster.

While the official reason being given for Singhvi opting out of party briefings is that he is unwell, CNN-IBN has learnt that Singhvi has opted out to avoid any questions on the CD controversy.

Singhvi has already obtained an injunction against the telecast of the CD and a former driver of the lawyer-politician has claimed that he was behind its dissemination.

Singhvi said he attended the Parliamentary Committee meeting on Tuesday. When asked to comment on whether he was removed from the duty roster or not, Singhvi said, "I was unwell on Monday, which is my only briefing day. I attended the Parliamentary Committee meet on Tuesday."
