Thackeray says BJP is mistreating its allies
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray accused the BJP of piggy-riding on regional parties.

Mumbai: After the Congress-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance trouble, now there is a strain in the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) union. In an editorial in Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna', party chief Bal Thackeray accused the BJP of piggy-riding on regional parties and yet mistreating its allies.

"The BJP which calls itself a national party has only been successful with the help of regional parties but it doesn't treat its alliance partners properly. In Punjab, BJP is having problems with the Akali Dal and here in Maharashtra the BJP is constantly straining relations with us till breaking point. On one hand Gopinath Munde states that there will be no alliance with the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) or MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) in the future and then they get their partyman elected as the standing committee chairman in Pune with the help of the very same party," Thackeray wrote.

Thackeray was referring to the election of BJP leader Ganesh Bidkar as Chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation Standing Committee. The Sena had also fielded a candidate and asked the BJP for support. But BJP candidate Bidkar won the polls with the help of the MNS and the NCP.

The Pune unit of the Shiv Sena has already written a the party leadership and suggested that it rethink its ties with the BJP.
