Gujarat elections: Cong to release its manifesto
The Congress on Monday took a dig at Modi as he released BJP's election manifesto, asking why his government did not undertake this in the last ten years.
New Delhi: A day after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi promised Rs 50 lakh 'pucca' housing units and insurance for the poor, the Gujarat Congress will release its manifesto for the Assembly Elections on Tuesday. In a previous announcement, the Congress has already promised affordable housing for urban women, free laptops to students, sops to government employees and reduction of VAT on petrol and diesel, if it is voted to power.
The Congress on Monday took a dig at Modi as he released BJP's election manifesto, asking why his government did not undertake this in the last ten years. "Due to development in Gujarat in the last 10 years, there has been substantial rise in this neo-middle class. We want to address their issues. We will form a committee to define this neo middle class," Modi said.
Taking a swipe at the BJP leader, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, "I think it is peculiar. With great respect it is a little bizarre. It is someone saying I created the internet. If the middle class in this country has prospered, it is because of the policies which have been put in place by UPA government."
Tewari also wondered what the Modi government was doing for the last 10 years when his government was in power there and asked why was he announcing the Housing scheme now.
