The CNN-News18-Gramener projection for Uttar Pradesh suggests a hung Assembly with BJP emerging first with 193 seats, followed by the SP-Congress alliance with 133 seats and the BSP a distant third with just 67 seats.

The projections are a weighted average of major exit poll predictions which predicted a BJP win in what is billed as the big semifinal before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, and a referendum on PM Narendra Modi's demonetisation drive.

Shortly after the exit poll predictions, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav told BBC Hindi that the Samajwadi Party-Congress coalition is willing to tie up with the Bahujan Samajwadi Party to prevent the "BJP from remote-controlling Uttar Pradesh".
