Hunger strike ends, agitation continues: Marandi
BJP suspended Sanjay Seth for siding with Marandi, hours after the former chief minister ended his fast.

Ranchi: Ending his 7-day fast-unto-death on Sunday, JVM-P chief Babulal Marandi said his agitation against the "insensitive" Jharkhand government would continue till the displaced people got their "right" to stay in their places.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP asserted that the state was taking right steps to serve the interests of the people.

"I have only concluded my hunger strike, but I will continue my agitation by covering across the state to see the plight of the displaced people and those who face the threat of losing their homes even after staying there up to 50 years," Marandi said after ending his fast.

"It is insensitive on the part of the government to let thousands of families homeless without having any master plan to rehabilitate them," said Marandi, who sat on hunger strike on May 1 to demand a special assembly session to pass a bill that would protect the interests of the displaced people or those facing the threat of being displaced.

BJP's state unit president Dineshanand Goswami, however, termed "flop" Marandi's fast-unto-death agitation.

"Marandi's was a flop show as the people did not respond to his agitation, which was aimless and uncalled for the state government is doing everything to address the problems of the people," Goswami claimed and added the anti-encroachment drive had been taken up on the orders of the high court.

BJP suspended its senior leader Sanjay Seth for siding with Marandi; hours after the former chief minister ended his fast.

Jharkhand Governor M O H Farook, meanwhile, returned an ordinance sent by the government after Chief Minister Arjun Munda had on Thursday sanctioned the same on behalf of the cabinet.

Sending back the ordinance, the governor asked to get it approved by the full cabinet before seeking his approval. The cabinet is scheduled to meet on Monday at 5 pm.

The ordinance was made to regularise houses that deviated from original design approved by the civic authority.
