Kohima: Repoll at a polling station in Northern Angami-II assembly constituency of Nagland was held peaceful recording a high turnout on Saturday.

Under the supervision of the District Administration Kohima, the repoll was held peacefully at rusoma village polling station number 16 with no untoward incidents, state election officials said.

A total of 89.63 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Saturday's repoll, they said.

NPF candidate Neiphriezo Keditsu and BJP candidate Visasolie Lhoungu also visited the Polling Station. Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, W Honje Konyak, ADC, Kohima Asangla Imti, SP Kohima, Joseph Hesso and others officials visited the Polling Station to ensure that the repoll was carried out in fair manner.

Security at the polling station was tightened by a company of 78th Battalion CRPF, Indian Reserve (Mahila) Battalion, 13th IR and Nagaland Police.

Byelection to the Northern Angami-II Constituency was held in 39 polling stations on October 15, as it was necessitated with the election of former Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to Lok Sabha in May 2014.

The Election Commission ordered the repoll on Thursday following the recommendation of Kohima District Returning Officer taking cognizance of a complaint filed by BJP against the Presiding Officer of the polling station for allegedly allowing proxy voting in favour of NPF candidate.

Counting of votes will be done on October 20 in the office of the Deputy Commissioner Kohima from 8:00am onwards.
