Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP K Keshav Rao has decided to cancel the sale deed of his land after it was revealed that it was a government land.

CNN News 18 has exposed, how Keshav Rao's daughter, Vijaya Lakshmi, and other family members, had purchased 50 acres of land in Ibrahimpatnam area, of which 38-acre was found to be government land in the audit.

The family had purchased land from controversial Goldstone firm, whose director Goldstone Prasad, is suspected to be the kingpin of the multi-crore land scam in Telangana. The involved sub-registrar was also suspended by the government in the crackdown.

Speaking to CNN News18, Keshav Rao said, "Government holds the view that it's their land. I don't want to fight against my own government."

Keshav Rao had, earlier, defended himself, saying that he had not done anything wrong and purchased the land as per the law, after court orders.

After Keshav Rao, the name of another TRS Rajya Sabha MP, Dharmapuri Srinivas, has surfaced in the multi-crore Telangana land scam.

In 2015, Srinivas, along with others, purchased 8.9 acres of land at Girmapur village in Medchal Mandal. Now, it is found that the land is a government-assigned land.

Speaking to CNN-News18, D Srinivas said,"We bought the land after checking and verifying all the records, and then the revenue records did not show that it was an assigned land. When we applied for Mutation, we were informed it was a government land."

Alleging involvement of influential people in the scam, the opposition has been demanding a CBI probe.

Reacting to the allegations by the opposition, the Telangana government said that there was no scam at all. After a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister issued a statement clarifying, "State government has come to a conclusion that the government treasury did not lose even a single rupee or an inch of government land."

"The government has clarified that no one can ever get the registration of the government lands and even if someone did, it has no legal validity and the land can never be transferred. The CM has clarified that some of those involved have been arrested and some more will be prosecuted however big and mighty they are. The CID will continue the probe," the statement said.

Questioning the alleged involvement of TRS leaders, BJP Spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said, "CM KCR's statements are misleading and clearly show the intention of the government to protect the land sharks. Who is CM trying to shield? Why is he not ordering a CBI inquiry? Still, nobody knows how the mega scamster and kingpin of the scam Goldstone Prasad managed to escape from Hyderabad? The Telangana BJP has also informed the Central government about the scale of the land scam in the state."

The entire opposition has united in their attack on the ruling TRS government. Congress leaders visited the Miyapur scam site and reiterated the demand for a CBI inquiry.

Accusing the Chief Minister of shielding the leaders, Congress Spokesperson Krishank said,"The government says sub-registrars were notified about government land, but sub-registrars went ahead and registered the lands. For KCR, it's entirely an omission and a mistake on the part of the sub-registrar. But what about corrupt ministers and senior leaders who lured sub-registrars into illegal deeds. No action against them? Government's move is to save the leaders and book sub-registrars. Such investigation is merely and eye wash."

Calling it the mother of all land scams, the opposition will only up the ante against the ruling TRS government. The government has promised that nobody will be spared.
