Twelve low-intensity blasts rocked Ahmedabad on Saturday evening.
Close on the heels of the serial bomb blasts in Bangalore, nine bombs exploded in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
The first blast took place in Maninagar, which is the Assembly constituency of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. According to initial reports the bomb in Maninagar was planted in a bicycle.
The bombs exploded within 15 minutes of each other, the first of them going off at about 1840 hrs IST.
The bombs exploded in Maninagar, Bapunagar, Hatkeshwar, Sarnagpur Bridge, Amraiwadi, Govindwadi, Sarangpur, Chakla area and Jawahar Chowk.
All these areas are in the eastern part of the city, and many of them have a large population of migrant labour from other parts of the state.
Residents in the affected areas, though shocked, soon joined the rescue efforts, and the injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital.
Initial reports say about 20 people have been taken injured and six have been taken to the civil hospital in Maninagar. No deaths have been reported so far.
CNN-IBNs Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai reports that the blasts were aimed at creating panic and not really at causing heavy causalities.
Twenty to thirty people have been admitted to various hospitals, officials said.
Some of the blasts took place in communally sensitive areas of the city.
Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed about only three blasts. A black coloured Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle has been found abandoned near the blast site in Maninagar.
The blasts occurred at about 1840 hrs IST. The bombs were hidden in tiffin boxes.
Some of the blasts took place in communally sensitive areas of the city. Ahmedabad railway station has been sealed following complete panic and chaos.
An emergency meeting is going on at Narendra Modis residence and the Chief Minister is likely to visit the blast areas soon. Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the United Christian Forum for Human Rights, Father Cederic Prakash, has appealed for calm.
There was a second blast in Maninagar area inside the LJ Hospital premises. The blast inside the hospital took place below a red-coloured car, which caught fire.
At least two people are feared killed while several more were injured, officials and eyewitnesses said.
The bombs, most of them of low-intensity, were planted on bicycles or in lunch boxes, the officials added.
