Indian cricketers have made it a habit to celebrate each other’s milestones so when young gun Rishabh Pant brought up a stunning century at the Narendra Modi Stadium against England in the fourth and final Test, his captain Virat Kohli was at his animated best. India started the proceedings on day 2 with 24/1 on the board with Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara in the middle. But as the overs went by, the hosts found themselves at 80/4. In came in-form batsman Rishabh Pant and changed the course of the game. From 146 for 6, Pant and Washington Sundar added 113 for the seventh wicket to take India past England’s score and into a decent lead. But perhaps the highlight of the day came when Pant reached the three-figure mark, a moment celebrated widely by fans and viewers from across the globe.
There was, however, a camera stationed at Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s face which captured his reaction when his teammate Pant slammed the ton. In a video that has gone viral on microblogging site Twitter, Kohli can be seen jumping off his seat and running towards the viewing area in the dressing room to applaud the special cricketer’s special innings.
Moments before Pant reached the milestone, the wicketkeeper-batsman stunned cricket fans with a ridiculous reverse sweep shot to a delivery by English pacer James Anderson. He did so when Anderson was armed with a new ball. Pant was batting at 89 and the incident happened in the 83rd over.
Last month, Mohammed Siraj warmed the hearts of cricket fans when the tailender broke into celebrations as his partner Ravichandran Ashwin brought up a memorable century against England.
Meanwhile, India have secured a crucial lead of 89 runs at a loss of 7 wickets at end of day 2. Anderson finally got the man who reverse-swept him for a score of 101. Washington Sundar remained unbeaten at 60.
