New Delhi: DB Realty Managing Director Shahid Balwa had written a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on December 22, 2010 in which he admitted that he knew Sadiq Batcha, a close associate of former telecom minister A Raja, since 2006. CNN-IBN has accessed Balwa's letter in which he says that he met Batcha at the Ministry of Environment and Forest in 2006 when Raja was handling the portfolio.
Balwa negotiated possible business deal with Batcha in Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu, which is Raja's Lok Sabha constituency.
Raja's wife Parmeshwari was a director in Batcha's company Green House Promoters, a Chennai-based export house which the CBI believes was a conduit for funds that were paid as kickbacks in the 2G spectrum allocation scam. Batcha has been questioned twice by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore scam.
Batcha allegedly floated Green House Promoters in 2004 to divert 2G scam money. Incidentally Raja became the Union environment minister in 2004. The Singapore-arm of the company was set up in 2007, during the allocation of the 2G licenses and spectrum.
He was one of the persons whose premises were raided on December 8, 2010 by the CBI in connection with the 2G scam and he was also questioned by the investigators on December 15, 2010.
