BJD's Bijaya Kumar Mohanty won this seat in the 2009 Odisha Assembly elections beating the PMK candidate by a margin of 34985 (45.89%) votes. Bijaya Kumar Mohanty polled 76,232 which was 60.89% of the total votes polled.
