In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Daspalla , recorded a voter turnout of 68.59%. The voter turnout in the 2014 Assembly elections was 68.49% and in 2009, 64.48% of Daspalla 's voters came out to elect their Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).
In the 2014 Odisha state Assembly elections, Purna Chandra Nayak of BJD won in this seat defeating INC's candidate by a margin of 57,327 votes which was 49.49% of the total votes polled. Purna Chandra Nayak polled a total of 1,15,845 (59.28%) votes.
BJD's Kashinath Mallik won this seat in the 2009 Odisha Assembly elections beating the MDMK candidate by a margin of 38758 (37.58%) votes. Kashinath Mallik polled 1,03,139 which was 59.28% of the total votes polled.
