This Rural constituency has 1,84,640 voters of which 90,459 are male and 94,181 are female and voters of the third gender.
In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Phulbani , recorded a voter turnout of 74.01%. The voter turnout in the 2014 Assembly elections was 74.97% and in 2009, 65.22% of Phulbani 's voters came out to elect their Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).
In the 2014 Odisha state Assembly elections, Duguni Kanhar of BJD won in this seat defeating BJP's candidate by a margin of 25,795 votes which was 20.65% of the total votes polled. Duguni Kanhar polled a total of 1,24,922 (36.6%) votes.
BJD's Debendra Kanhar won this seat in the 2009 Odisha Assembly elections beating the BJP candidate by a margin of 8729 (8.39%) votes. Debendra Kanhar polled 1,04,076 which was 36.6% of the total votes polled.
Phulbani went to the polls in Phase 2 of the 2019 Odisha Assembly polls on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
