In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Surada, recorded a voter turnout of 68.12%. The voter turnout in the 2014 Assembly elections was 65.53% and in 2009, 57.7% of Surada's voters came out to elect their Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).
In the 2014 Odisha state Assembly elections, Purna Chandra Swain of BJD won in this seat defeating INC's candidate by a margin of 16,000 votes which was 11.67% of the total votes polled. Purna Chandra Swain polled a total of 1,37,148 (40.41%) votes.
BJD's Purna Chandra Swain won this seat in the 2009 Odisha Assembly elections beating the PMK candidate by a margin of 4011 (3.74%) votes. Purna Chandra Swain polled 1,07,160 which was 40.41% of the total votes polled.
Surada went to the polls in Phase 2 of the 2019 Odisha Assembly polls on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
