9. Barfung is an Assembly/Vidhan Sabha constituency in South region of Sikkim and falls in South Sikkim district. Sikkim is located in North East India. Seat is reserved for Bhutia-Lepcha.
This constituency has 12,283 voters of which are male and are female and voters of the third gender.
In the 2019 Sikkim Assembly elections, Barfung, recorded a voter turnout of 79.15%. The voter turnout in the 2014 Assembly elections was 84.73% and in 2009, 85.78% of Barfung's voters came out to elect their Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).
In the 2014 Sikkim state Assembly elections, Dorjee Dazom Bhutia of SDF won in this seat defeating SKM's candidate by a margin of 3,179 votes which was 30.54% of the total votes polled. Dorjee Dazom Bhutia polled a total of 10,408 (70.35%) votes.
SDF's Sonam Gyatso Bhutia won this seat in the 2009 Sikkim Assembly elections beating the BJP candidate by a margin of 3852 (44.8%) votes. Sonam Gyatso Bhutia polled 8,598 which was 70.35% of the total votes polled.
Barfung went to the polls in Phase 1 of the 2019 Sikkim Assembly polls on Thursday, April 11, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
