Bharatiya Janata PartyUttar Pradesh ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2022

BJP

The ruling BJP has set the target of 300-plus seats in the 403-seat Uttar Pradesh Assembly, with chief minister Yogi Adityanath as its campaign face. Adityanath is contesting from home turf Gorakhpur. The party had swept to majority with 312 seats in 2017. It has pitched the twin-engine 'sarkar' of Narendra Modi at the Centre and Yogi Adityanath in the state as key for growth. It also implies that a win for the BJP in UP is crucial for the party returning to power in 2024.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, BJP contested in 384 out of 403 seats, winning 312 seats with 39.67% of the total votes cast. In 2012, BJP contested in 398 out of 403 seats, winning 47 seats with 15% of the total votes cast. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP contested in 78 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh winning 62. In 2014, BJP contested in 78 out of 80 Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh winning 71.
