The Congress is going solo this time in Uttar Pradesh, its campaign steered by party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Despite mounting speculation, she has not given any indication of making her electoral debut. ‘Ladki Hun, Lad Sakti Hun’ is the party’s war cry this time, and it has tried to corner the Yogi Adityanath government on the issues of safety of women and minorities. The grand old party was relegated to the fourth spot in the 2017 elections with seven seats in the 403-seat Assembly.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, INC contested in 114 out of 403 seats, winning 7 seats with 6.25% of the total votes cast. In 2012, INC contested in 355 out of 403 seats, winning 28 seats with 11.65% of the total votes cast. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, INC contested in 67 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh winning 1. In 2014, INC contested in 66 out of 80 Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh winning 2.
