IPL Purple Cap 2023: FAQs

Who is Purple Cap Holder in IPL 2023?

Mohammed Shami of Gujarat Titans holds the purple cap 2023 with a total of 28 wickets from 16 matches. Rashid Khan came second and has 27 wickets in 15 matches. Mohit Sharma who stood third has 27 wickets to his name from 14 matches.

What is Purple Cap in IPL?

The Purple Cap is an award given to the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament. It is similar to the most wickets taken award in other cricket tournaments. The Purple Cap was first introduced in the IPL in 2008 and has since been awarded every year.

The Purple Cap is presented to the player who has taken the most wickets in the tournament at the end of the IPL season. If two or more players have the same number of wickets, the player with a better bowling average is awarded the Purple Cap. In case of a tie in both wickets and bowling average, the player who has bowled fewer overs in the tournament is given the award.

The Purple Cap is a coveted award in the IPL and is seen as a mark of distinction for the bowlers. Some of the past recipients of the Purple Cap include Lasith Malinga, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Kagiso Rabada.

How is Fair Play Award calculated?

The Fair Play Award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is given to the team that displays the best on-field conduct and sportsmanship during the tournament. The Fair Play Award is calculated based on a points system that takes into account various factors such as adherence to the laws of the game, respect for the opposition and the umpires, and overall conduct on and off the field.

The Indian Premier League official website states that the Fair Play Award points system is based on the following criteria:

Teams conduct on the field: The umpires rate each team conduct on the field during the match, based on factors such as appealing, dissent, use of language, and respect for the umpires.

Teams conduct off the field: The teams are also assessed for their conduct off the field, which includes their interactions with the media, their adherence to the tournament Code of Conduct, and their overall conduct towards their opponents.

Spirit of the game: The teams are evaluated for their adherence to the spirit of the game, which includes their commitment to fair play, their respect for their opponents, and their overall attitude towards the game.

At the end of the tournament, the team with the highest points in the Fair Play Award points system is declared the winner of the Fair Play Award. The Fair Play Award is seen as a mark of distinction for the team, and it reflects the team commitment to upholding the values of sportsmanship and fair play in the IPL.
