Key Events
Key EventsThat’s a bizarre end of an ODI game. Australia chase down India’a 117 in just 11 overs with all 10 wickets intact. An unbeaten 121-run opening stand between Travis Head and Mitch Marsh helped the Aussies seek revenge for the last encounter’s drubbing. In due process, both openers notched up their fifties; Marsh off 28 balls while Head took 29 deliveries to reach half-a-ton. A total of 16 boundaries and 6 maximums were struck in Australia’s chase. As far as India’s bowling is concerned, the attack seemed toothless and failed. Each and every bowler was taken to the cleaners by Head and Marsh and the duo hardly had a problem in doing that. Earlier, Mitchell Starc once again turned out to be tormentor-in-chief as his five-wicket haul blew away India for a lowly 117. Starc, who had three wickets in the previous game, took 5 for 53 in eight overs, including four in his first spell as India was bowled out for their third-lowest total against Australia, in just 26 overs.
Travis Head look to heave but gets a thick top edge. Shami tries to get underneath the ball but drops it ultimately. Head survives at 48.
AUS: 114/0 after 10.2 overs
Mitchell Marsh is showing no mercy here! Short again and on middle, Mitchell Marsh picks the length early and sits deep in his crease. Latches onto the pull shot and deposits it towards the mid-wicket fence for a 97 metre six.
AUS: 106/0 after 9.2 overs
100 runs on the board for Australia in just 9 overs and they are only 18 runs away from a superb victory. It’s been a powerful performance by the visitors and it leaves India with a lot to think about.
AUS: 100/0 after 9 overs.
Marsh gets to the milestone in style. Smashes the third six off the over and gets his 13th ODI fifty off just 28 balls. It’s also his 2nd consecutive half-century in this series.
AUS: 90/0 after 8 overs
Hardik Pandya comes into the attack and is welcomed by Mitchell Marsh with a huge six. A slower delivery, full and on middle, Mitchell Marsh picks it up early and smokes it well over the long off fence.
AUS: 78/0 after 7.1 overs.
Siraj to Head – 4, 4, 4, 4. It’s raining boundaries and sixes for Australia while the Indians have no answer to this assault. 50-up for the visitors and they can sniff victory very easily.
AUS: 66/0 after 6 overs
Shami to Marsh – 6, 4, 0, 6, 0, 0
An extremely expensive over from Mohammad Shami and that also brings up 49 runs on the board for the Aussies. No problem at all for the visitors in the chase of 118.
AUS: 49/0 after 5 overs
Siraj bowls this on a hard length and outside off, Mitchell Marsh accepts the room and muscles it through extra covers for a boundary.
AUS: 28/0 after 3.1 overs
Shami to Mitch Marsh – 4, 4
Mitchell Marsh replicates what his opening partner did last over. Back-to-back boundaries for Australia again which is more than enough to put India under pressure. The hosts need wickets, some quick ones and that’s the only way out.
AUS: 22/0 after 2.3 overs
Shami to Travis Head – 4, 4.
India are already under the pump and they cannot afford to concede boundaries in bulk. Great stuff from Travis Head though. Back-to-back boundaries, building for a very good start in the chase of 118.
AUS: 13/0 after 2 overs.
Tucked it away from the man at square leg, towards the on side, and the ball travels smoothly to the boundary line. First boundary for Travis Head.
AUS: 7/0 after 1.2 overs
Mohammad Shami provides a great start to India, conceding just 2 runs of the opening over. But that won’t be enough as the hosts need some quick wickets to leash the Aussies.
AUS: 2/0 after 1 over

Mitchell Starc hits the timber to claim his ninth five-wicket haul and bundled out India for just 117. Mohammed Siraj failed to survive against Starc which was also the case with four other India batters today. Top-class bowling performance from the Australian pacers here. Starc led the attack and the others chipped in well. India 117 all out in 26 overs
Axar Patel decided to free his arms as he is running out of partners now. The southpaw smacked Mitchell Starc for back-to-back sixes here to entertain the fans.
OUT! Two in Two for Sean Abbott as Mohammed Shami departs for a golden duck here. Excellent bowling from Abbott here as India are on the verge of getting bundled out here. IND 103/9 in 24.5 overs
OUT! Australia strikes again as Sean Abbott dismisses Kuldeep Yadav for 4. Abbott banged it short and Kuldeep went for a pull shot but missed timing as Travis Head grabbed the catch. IND 103/8 in 24.4 overs
A fine over from Nathan Ellis as 1 run came off it. Maybe it’s time for Mitchell Starc to return to the attack and claim his fifer. He can nail the yorkers against Kuldeep Yadav. So far, Kuldeep has shown solid defence. IND 101/7 in 24 overs
After missing the series opener, Rohit Sharma returned to lead the Indian team once again in the second ODI. The swashbuckling opener was not available for the selection due to some family commitments. Rohit was in good form during the ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand and he will look to replicate the same versus the Aussies in the last two ODIs. He is expected to replace Ishan Kishan in the XI as Rohit shared solid partnerships with Shubman Gill this year in the ODIs.
While Australia might also make some changes to their XI after losing the first ODI. David Warner is expected to return to the side if he regained full fitness. It will be interesting to see where Mitchell Marsh bats if Warner returns to the XI.
