28th November 1975: 'Whispering Death' Makes International Debut

Michael Holding in action.

One of the world's greatest fast bowler - West Indian Michael Holding made his debut against Australia in Brisbane.

It wasn't the most memorable of debuts as he ended with figures 0 for 127 in the match, as West Indies were thumped by eight wickets in a series they would eventually lose 1-5.

Australia were chasing a tricky target of 219 and the Chappell brothers - Ian and Greg - hammered an unbroken 159 for the third wicket to seal the win.

Greg scored an unbeaten 109 after scoring 123 in first innings.

Dennis Lillee too bowled one of his worse spells and ended with figures of 11-0-84-3. Though, at that time they used to be eight-ball overs.

Holding though improved significantly and was eventually regarded as one of the greats of the game,

He was nicknamed the 'Whispering Death' because of his quite approach towards the bowling crease.
