New Delhi: It was the occasion of Steve Waugh's final Test match, and his Aussie side was up against a charged-up Indian side. The Indians were in complete control of the game until Waugh smashed a brilliant 80 runs in the second innings to save the match for Australia. This match will also be remembered for the exploits of Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 241 runs, his highest Test score.

In the whole match, there were a few notable performances. VVS Laxman notched a great 178 runs, that propelled India to 705/7. It was his second century of the series. Australia too gave a decent fight chasing that daunting total, and scored 474 runs, with Simon Katich getting a hundred. India did not enforce the follow on, and missed the opportunity to go for the kill. At the end of the Test match, Waugh was carried around by his team-mates.
