Asad Rauf, Billy Bowden removed from Elite Panel

Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel have been promoted following the annual review and selection process for umpires.

New Delhi: Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel have been promoted to the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, replacing Asad Rauf and Billy Bowden. Illingworth and Reifel were chosen by the ICC Umpires Selection Panel as part of their annual review and selection process.

Illingworth and Reiffel have joined Aleem Dar, Kumar Dharmasena, Steve Davis, Marais Erasmus, Ian Gould, Tony Hill, Richard Kettleborough, Nigel Llong, Bruce Oxenford and Rod Tucker in the panel for the 2013-2014 season, commencing July 1.

Former England Test spinner Illingworth has officiated in four Tests, 16 ODIs and seven Twenty20 international since he made his debut in July 2010. Reifel, a former Australia fast bowler who played 35 Tests and 92 ODIs, has been umpiring internationally since January 2009. He has stood in four Tests, 30 ODIs and nine T20Is.

“It is exciting to see Richard and Paul promoted to the elite panel, but it is also important to acknowledge and appreciate the outstanding contributions of Asad and Billy over a long period of time," said the chairman of the ICC Umpires Selection Panel, Geoff Allardice. “The selection panel considered the overall performances of the umpires over the past 12 months when deciding which umpires would be offered contracts for 2013-14. In Asad’s case, it is important to emphasize that the recent speculation linking his name to the IPL spot-fixing investigation was not considered during the selectors’ deliberations."

Bowden has been on the Elite Panel since 2003 and umpired in 75 Tests, 181 ODIs and 19 T20Is while Rauf umpired in 47 Tests, 98 ODIs and 23 T20Is and was a member of the Elite Panel since 2006. Rauf was withdrawn from the recent ICC Champions Trophy because of the allegations of corrupt practice in the IPL he is facing in India.
