Malinga (4/26) and Kulasekara (3/10) picked up seven wickets between them while Herath picked up 2/22 as Sri Lanka successfully defended their modest total of 129/8 against UAE.

UAE innings:

SRI LANKA BEAT UAE BY 14 runs. It was a great bowling effort by the Lankan bowlers. None of the UAE batsmen apart from Swapnil Patil were able to play Lankan bowlers successfully. Lankan bowlers restricted them to 115/9 in 20 overs

Out! Four wickets for Malinga. He has bowled his heart out today. He finished with the figures of 4/26

Gone! Kulasekara picks up his third after Amjad Javed was caught at long off trying to clear the boundary. UAE are 8 down for 93 now.

Out! Malinga comes back into the attack and strikes! Swapnil Patil falls for 37 off 36 balls as he gets a leading edge which was caught by Malinga himself.

UAE need 47 off 24. Sri Lanka need 4 wickets

Swapnil Patil is still hopeful and is playing some brilliant shots in the middle. This time he smashes Chameera to back-to-back boundaries at deep midwicket. He is on 35 from 31 balls.

14 overs: UAE batsmen have failed here miserably. They should have at least given a fight here to Lankans after bowling them out for just 129. They are 66/6 after 14 overs.

9.40 p.m.: UAE are 49/6 after 11 overs

Out! UAE are falling like pack of cards. Saqlain Haider the latest batsman out trying to go for Full Monty but only managed to top edge one and Chandimal takes an easiest of catches. Herath with his second.

Six! Swapnil Patil takes the attack to Herath and smashes him over long off for a biggie. UAE need more of those.

Out! Rangana Herath comes into the attack and it took just five balls to get his first wicket. Shaiman Anwar edges one to Chandimal after making 13. UAE have lost half of their side for just 39 runs.

Six! Swapnil Patil moves across the stumps and smashes Angelo Mathews for six over the fine leg. That will take same pressure off. UAE are 36/4 after 7 overs

9.11 p.m.: Shaiman Anwar with two boundaries in an over. He knows that UAE needs to counter-attack here to get back in the game.

Out! This is going from bad to worse for UAE. Sri Lanka on top here. Kulasekara picks up second wicket in an over. Mohammad Usman gives a simple catch at first slip. UAE are 16/4

Out! UAE batsmen are throwing away wickets for fun. This time Muhammad Kaleem holds out at mid off after making just 7. Kulasekara picks up his first wicket.

DROPPED! Siriwardana puts down a simple chance at slip

Out! Another one bites the dust - this time of the last ball of the over.c was beaten all ends up and is clean bowled by Malinga. UAE 7 for 2 after 1st over

Out! Dream start for Lasith Malinga and Sri Lanka. Rohan Mustafa is LBW off over first ball of the innings.

OUT! Mohammad Naveed gets his second wicket. Jayasuriya gone for 10. Sri Lanka are now struggling at 113/6 in 17.3 overs.

OUT! Dasun Shanaka dismissed by Naveed for 5. This has been a stunning comeback from UAE after Dilshan and Chandimal gave them a strong start. SL 105/4 in 16 overs

OUT! Here goes another one. Amjad Javed gets his third wicket. Dinesh Chandimal dismissed on fifty. A good innings comes to an end. Sri Lanka have lost three wickets in quick succession. SL 89/0 in 13.2 overs.

Openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal gave Sri Lanka a good start before Amjad Javed broke the 68-run stand in the 10th over in Dhaka.

Mohammad Shahzad starts the new over and Dinesh Chandimal hits two boundaries from first two balls. Single off the next ball and then Dilshan tries to play a dilscoop and misses it completely. Four more this time Dilshan hits it to deep midwicket. 14 runs came from the over. SL 65/0 in 7 overs.

Chandimal hits back-to-back fours off Amjad Javed. 11 runs came from the over. SL 42/0 in 5 overs.

SIX! Chandimal hits Qadir to backward square leg. Sri Lanka 31/0 in 4 overs.

It has been a solid start for Sri Lanka. They have not taken much risk but are still scoring runs at a good pace.

Naveed starts the next over and Dilshan welcomes him with a cracking four.

Qadeer Ahmed comes in to bowl the next over. Single followed by a four by Chandimal to square leg boundary. End of over 2: SL 7/0

With their star players back in the squad, a buoyant Sri Lanka would like to get into the groove when they face minnows United Arab Emirates first-up in a Round-robin league encounter of the Asia Cup T20 tournament in Mirpur on Thursday.

The Sri Lankan team bears a formidable look with the comeback of their skipper Lasith Malinga and Test captain Angelo Mathews, both of whom were missing due to injuries during the recent T20 series against India.
