Johannesburg: South African batting legend Barry Richards’ eldest son - Mark - has committed suicide, according to media reports here.
Richards confirmed that the tragedy happened this week.
“It’s a difficult time to talk about it now. We are shattered. I’d rather not talk about it now but will eventually do so later on," Richards, who presently lives in Australia, was quoted as saying by local media here.
According to the report, Mark “is believed to have a drug problem and was recently admitted to a rehabilitation centre".
Richards, who was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame earlier this year, played four Tests for South Africa scoring 508 runs at an average of 72.57. He scored 28,358 runs in his first-class career.
