BPL: Second victory in a row for Gladiators

Mirpur: Dhaka Gladiators clinched their second win in a row as they beat Rangpur Riders by 35 runs to go top of the table in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Saturday.

After winning the toss, Gladiators chose to bat first and posted a huge 202 for 5. In reply, Riders could only make 167 for 4 in their 20 overs. Mohammad Ashraful led the way for Gladiators as he made a blistering 73 off 47 balls. The veteran player hit eight fours and three sixes in his knock. English batsman Luke Wright gave him support with his 16-ball 22. In the later part of their innings, Joshua Cobb played a cameo, 34 off 17 balls, to take his side’s score past 200. Owais Shah also made a useful contribution of 28 off 22 balls.

In response, Niall O'Brien played a handy knock of 40 off 35 balls but the main initiative was taken by Nasir Hossain, who played a scintillating knock of 80 off 49 balls. The 21-year-old batsman smashed five fours and six sixes in his knock. But his heroics went in vain as the other batsmen could not play their part.

Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers for Gladiators as he picked two crucial wickets in his four overs and gave away only 17 runs. Gladiators are now on top of the table with four points in their kitty.
