One of the most consistent teams in the history of the cash-rich Indian Premier League has been the Chennai Super Kings, who along with the Mumbai Indians have won the title thrice in their history, but have played two seasons less than the Mumbaikars. The CSK side which boasts of some big names and loads of experience also has in their squad the most consistent batsman, Suresh Raina, in the IPL through it's 11 seasons.
Raina, a middle order left handed batsman is a crucial cog in the CSK batting line-up and is one part of the very backbone of MS Dhoni's side. Raina may have fallen out of favour from the Indian team, but the southpaw has been consistently performing through all the seasons of the tournament. The southpaw played 15 matches in the 2018 edition of the tournament and scored 445 runs with four half centuries to boast off, and the record of being the only batsman to have scored more than 300 runs in every season of the tournament.
In the final against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Raina scored 32 before being dismissed in what was eventually a winning cause.
With the 11th season of the IPL coming to an end on Sunday evening in Mumbai, Suresh Raina has now become the batsman with highest runs in the history of the tournament and is ahead of the Indian captain Virat Kohli. In 11 years, the left hander has played a 176 matches and batted in 172 innings which has seen him amass 4,985 runs with an unbeaten 100 as his highest score as well as 35 half centuries to boast off.
Indian captain Virat Kohli who turns out for the Royal Challengers Bangalore is only 37 runs behind Raina. The only CSK man anywhere close to the high standards of Raina is his captain MS Dhoni with a total of 4,016 runs to his name.
