CPL 2019: Green & King Help Guyana Post Big Win Over Tridents in Rain-marred Encounter

It’s raining points for Guyana Amazon Warriors as the side claimed their sixth win in as many games, as they defeated Barbados Tridents by 12 runs in a rain-affected encounter of the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday.

It all started with the exploits of Chris Green with the ball, who kept bagging wickets at regular intervals and broke the back of opposition’s batting. The off-spinner returned with figures of 4/14 to reduce Tridents to 138/10.

In reply, Brandon King massacred Tridents bowlers and smashed a swashbuckling 51 from 34 balls that put the Warriors ahead in the D/L race. King hit five fours and three towering sixes to put his team in a position of strength.

Warriors were dominant throughout the match and did not allow Barbados to make a comeback. Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd and Imran Tahir’s miserly bowling put brakes on the scoring and Tridents never really recovered from that. At one stage they were 85/5 in seven overs.

JP Duminy did some damage control and hit 38 from 32 balls, but didn’t get enough support from the other batsmen.

During Guyana’s chase, there were two rain interruptions, with the first one coming when the scoreboard read 77/2 in 10 overs and the second and final one at 81/2. That was enough for the Warriors to win the match comfortably.

Brief Scores: Guyana Amazon Warriors 81/2 in 11 overs (Brandon King 51*) beat Barbados Tridents 138 in 19.2 overs (JP Duminy 38; Chris Green 4-14) by 12 runs (DLS Method)
