There was hardly ever any doubt over Joe Root’s style of batting but if there was a chink in his armour it was certainly his performance in T20 cricket. Well, the former England skipper has now addressed the criticism in a convincing fashion. Root exhibited a blistering performance during an International League T20 (ILT20) fixture on Thursday. Root played some exquisite shots all over the park at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Root, while playing for Dubai Capitals, smashed three boundaries against Gulf Giants. However, Root’s quickfire knock came to a premature end after he was dismissed for 20. His power-packed batting ultimately went in vain as Dubai Capitals had to concede a crushing 101-run defeat.

After a thrilling victory in the first ODI against New Zealand, Team India arrived in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur for the second encounter. The team was received with much enthusiasm by fans. However, it was a welcome special poster of Virat Kohli that caught everyone’s attention. In the photo, shared on Twitter, fans have painted an entire wall with an image of the star India batter.

You admired Robin Uthappa a lot and he will be a part of the squad with you. What’s the feeling?

I have been watching him for years now and the consistency he has had for all these years, it’s amazing to be around him. It’s a great exposure that we are getting. Moreover, you get to learn a lot by just watching them in the nets and the practice sessions. It’s a great opportunity for us. He is very humble and welcoming and open to questions. He says, “seekhna hai to pucho na. Kyun nahi puchre (Ask questions if you wanna learn)”. That’s the kind of nature which is very inspiring. I would love to replicate this. If you can help someone in a small manner, that’s simply great.

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the BCCI selectors for ignoring Sarfaraz Khan repeatedly in the Test side. Sarfaraz has been scoring consistently well in domestic cricket for the last couple of years but has not been able to get a Test call-up.

“He is not staying off the field when he is scoring hundreds, he is back on the field again. All that tells you that the man is fit for cricket. If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then you might as well go to a fashion show and pick some models and then give them a bat and ball in their hand and then include them. You have cricketers in all shapes and sizes. Don’t go by the size, but go by the runs and the wickets,” Gavaskar added.

Former Australian cricketer David Hussey believes Adam Zampa’s omission from the Border-Gavaskar series in India could have dealt a body blow to the off-spinner’s Test aspirations.

Hussey, 45, a white-ball specialist, felt strongly about Zampa’s exclusion after being assured of a Test berth in the India tour.

“He (Zampa) played a red-ball Shield game for New South Wales against Victoria at the Junction Oval just prior to the Big Bash starting and he bowled particularly well,” Hussey told SEN Radio on Thursday.

“I think all reports from (head coach Andrew) McDonald and (chairman of selectors) George Bailey (was that) he (Zampa) was going to be going to India.” The former Australia cricketer added that had Zampa been selected, he would have been successful in India.

India beat South Africa by 27 runs in the Tri-Series opener on Thursday in East London.
