Australia opener David Warner was named skipper of the Sylhet Sixers for the upcoming sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), starting on January 5. The southpaw replaces Nasir Hossain as captain of the side.

Warner and Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichanne are the Sixers’ direct overseas picks for this year. With Warner in their side, Sixers will hope for a better performance in the league, after they finished fifth in the last edition.

Warner, after being slapped with a ban of 12-months for his involvement in ball-tampering controversy in the Cape Town Test earlier this year, has been plying his trade in various T20 leagues across the world.

Though he was barred from participating in the Indian Premier League, he has played since played in Global T20 Canada and Caribbean Premier League. In CPL, he could only score 220 runs at an average of 31.42 for St Lucia stars.

Steve Smith, on the other hand, will play for Comilla Victorians.
