Mirpur: Dhaka Gladiators routed Barisal Burners by eight wickets on Saturday to claim the top position in the points table of the Bangaldesh Premier League 2012-13. Barisal Burners' skipper Brad Hodge won the toss and opted to bat but his decision went horribly wrong as his team could manage just 114 runs in 20 overs at the loss of nine wickets. Their opener Phil Mustard was dismissed Mashrafe Mortaza on the second ball of the match and Barisal Burners didn't recover from the early jolt.

Though Azhar Mahmood made 30 runs, it took him 33 balls. To compound the matters, no other batsman could stay at the wicket and score runs. Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Alfonso Thomas and Chris Liddle chalked up two wickets each to foil their opponent. In reply, Dhaka Gladiators lost Mohammad Ashraful early but Tillakratne Dilshan and Shakib compiled a 92-run partnership for the second wicket to set their team on the course of a thumping victory.

Shakib, who was adjudged Man of the Match, fell after cracking 54 runs off 31 balls but Dilshan remained unbeaten on 49 as Dhaka Gladiators cruised to a eight-wicket victory with 7.2 overs to spare.

In another match, Rangpur Riders pipped Chittagong Kings by five wickets in a thriller which went down to the last ball of the match. Abdur Razzak, captain of Rangpur Riders', opted to field after winning the toss. Ryan ten Doeschate continued his sparkling form and blasted a sprightly half-century. He received fine support from Ariful Haque, who made 33 off 20 balls, as Chittagong Kings innings mustered 160 runs in 20 overs at the loss of six wickets.

Imrul Kayes and Cameron Borgas hit 48 runs each to take Rangpur Riders near the target. They fell in quick succession but Danza Hyatt and Kevin O'Brien held their nerves and smashed 16 runs in the last over as their team squeaked to victory.
