‘Don’t Care About Personal Credit’ – Stokes on Manjrekar’s ‘Garnish’ Comparison

Ben Stokes played a key role in the England cricket team’s 3-0 series whitewash in Sri Lanka. The all-rounder made a difference with the bat, ball and was often a livewire in the field as well.

However, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar didn’t think as highly of the 27-year old’s contributions to the series victory.

Manjrekar, who now does commentary, compared Stokes’ role in the series win to that of a chef who simply places the garnish on top of the food after the cooking is complete.

“So you have these hardworking chefs who have made a great dish. Someone comes and puts a little garnish on top and he gets all the credit. Moeen, Leach, Foakes are those poor chefs and Stokes the one with the garnish,” he said on Twitter.

The comment eventually made its way round to Stokes, who chose not to hit back at Manjrekar and rather focused on how England won as a team.

“We don’t care about personal credit, and garnish is pointless on all food anyways, we care about winning, it’s a team sport and we won as a team #3-0 Cheers Sanjay,” tweeted Stokes.

England’s 3-0 series win over Sri Lanka was the first time they have won a series in the country since 2001. It was also the first clean sweep for England in a Test series featuring more than 3 matches since 1963.

England’s next assignment is an away series against the Windies featuring three Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is. The series starts from January 23rd, 2019.
