Former India Cricketer Arun Lal Recovers From Rare Jaw Cancer

Arun Lal had been a regular behind the mic doing cricket commentary, but of late, the former India batsman's voice has been missing during live broadcast. It's because he is recovering from a "rare and dangerous" jaw cancer.

Diagnosed in January 2016, Lal's malignant disease required a 14-hour surgery on Saturday, which required his jaw to be replaced.

Now, he recovers in a Kolkata hospital.

"It's a rare and dangerous cancer. The symptoms were detected in time before I went through a rigorous treatment process. Thank God, I have been able to hold my place. It is like a new life.

"It was tough but I am indebted to the fantastic job by the doctors," the 60-year-old told The Hindu.

Lal, who played 16 Tests and 13 ODIs for India, has scored over 10,000 runs in first-class cricket with 30 hundreds and 43 fifties at a healthy average of 46.94.
