New Zealand A pacers ran through India A's lower order before the visitors hit back to leave the four-day game in the balance at the end of the second day in Whangarei.

India A resumed the day on 248 for 4 but were bowled out 323 with captain Doug Bracewell picking five wickets and Lockie Ferguson taking four. Vijay Shankar top scored with 71 while Shubman Gill made 62. Opener Abhimanyu Easwaran had made a half-century (56) on the opening day. At stumps, New Zealand A were on 121 for 3 with Tim Seifert on 55 and Rachin Ravindra on five.

Gill started the day on 47 and Vijay on 60 but neither added much to their overnight scores. Ferguson got Gill, Vijay and K Gowtham in three successive overs to derail the innings.

KS Bharat, the wicketkeeper-batsman, kept India A going with a run-a-ball 47 even as Bracewell added a couple more wickets. Bharat was the last man dismissed.

New Zealand A lost both their openers with the score on 50 before Glenn Phillips added 59 for the third wicket with Seifert. Siraj then had Phillips lbw for his second wicket before Ravindra and Seifert saw the team through to stumps.

This is the third and final four-day match of the tour, with the first two games having ended in draws. The teams will also play three one-day games
