India vs Australia: Pandya Ruled Out Due to Back Stiffness, Jadeja Called as Replacement for ODIs

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the T20I & ODI series against Australia due to lower back stiffness. According to a release by the BCCI, the board’s medical team has decided to rest the Baroda cricketer.

The 25-year-old will now undergo strength and conditioning work for his lower back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, starting next week.

The T20I squad will now consist of 14 members, whereas Ravindra Jadeja has been named as Pandya's replacement for the five ODIs.

This is the second time in five months that Pandya has been sidelined due to a lower-back injury. In September 2018, he had suffered a similar injury during an Asia Cup match against Pakistan and had to be stretchered off the field.

Now, Vijay Shankar is the lone seam-bowling all-rounder in India's squad and is expected to bowl in Pandya's absence.

On the other hand, this is a golden opportunity for Jadeja, who will be hoping to make the most of this call-up and book a berth in India's World Cup squad.

The left-arm spinner played in the ODIs against the Windies and also featured in the three ODIs against Australia. In New Zealand series though, he failed to get a game.
