India vs England - Key Battles To Watch Out For In the Second T20I Between India and England

England showed India just why they are the number one ranked team in the format thrashing the hosts by 8 wickets in the first T20I in Ahmedabad. The win was set up by the bowlers and completed by their destructive batsmen. England executed their plans to perfection while India could not. The final result was determined by a number of mini battles within the match which were all won by England.

We look at three such key match-ups which can decide the second T20I too.

India vs England, 1st T20I: Michael Vaughan, Wasim Jaffer Indulge in Hilarious Social Media Banter

1. Jofra Archer vs KL Rahul

Jofra Archer was the Player of the Match in the series opener in Ahmedabad. He set India back getting rid of their ace opener KL Rahul with the second delivery of his spell. He was fast extracting extra bounce from the wicket and very disciplined in his line and length. Archer was almost impossible to get away and returned to get the wickets of Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur off successive deliveries in the 18th over just when India were looking to up the ante at the death. Expect nothing less but unrelenting hostility from the English pacer in the second T20I too.

How will Rahul play Archer? Will he show him respect or use his extra pace to his advantage? Rahul can go up and over and cause a lot of damage in the first 6 overs if we gets his sights in.

2. Adil Rashid vs Rishabh Pant

Pant could be promoted up the order to counter England’s spin ace Adil Rashid. With his stock delivery coming into the left-hander, Pant could attack and throw into disarray the leg break bowler – that is the only way to counter him. If allowed to settle into his groove, Rashid will not only be restrictive but also chip in with crucial wickets. It will be interesting to see whether Rashid throws in a few doosras should he be attacked by the swashbuckling left-hander. The Pant vs Rashid battle in the middle overs will be crucial in determining the outcome of the match.

3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs Jason Roy

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a T20 veteran with 189 wickets in 181 matches at an economy rate of 7,14 and strike rate of 21. Bhuvneshwar is critical to India’s chances in the match. He has a number of variations in his repertoire with a fantastic slower delivery. He not only needs to control the flow of runs in the powerplay but also chip in with a couple of wickets – England bat deep and it is paramount India get early breakthroughs.

His task will be cut out against the in-form opener Jason Roy who smashed a splendid 49 off just 32 deliveries in the first encounter. Roy will look to target Bhuvneshwar and if the Indian seamer can remove the dangerous right-hander early in his innings it might set England on the backfoot and give India early ascendancy in the match.
