After the Tests, the focus has now shifted to India-England Test series, and the biggest question that arises here is, home team’s playing XI. There are a whole lot of players vying for different spots. At the top of the order, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the options. Former selector Devang Gandhi feels that Rohit and Rahul would open the batting in the series, while Dhawan will be the reserve opener.
“KL and Rohit are your opening pair in T20s going into the World T20. Shikhar will be the reserve opener and will have to wait for his turn. Maybe during the ODIs, he can be given a chance if the ODIs are also treated as an extension of T20 preparation,” former national selector Devang Gandhi, who was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
On the other hand Gandhi said, that Suryakuymar Yadav could be tried at number 5, while Rishabh Pant will bat at number 4. Gandhi feels that Mumbai Indians players should be given a long rope. “Surya has had tremendous success for Mumbai Indians in the IPL batting at that particular slot. If you are looking at him going into the World T20, give him as many games as possible in the lead-up. He should also be kept in the ODI squad.”
